February 2022 - Jayden Calvert
It’s the shortest month of the year but I made the most out of February!
I escaped winter in Canada for a whole 8 days when I travelled to Kissimmee, Florida for the 148th Silver Spurs Rodeo! There were only three performances of the large, indoor, southeastern circuit rodeo but they were well attended by Floridians and vacationers eager to witness some professional rodeo action!
Did you know that Orlando, Florida is #1 visited city in the world? For the weekend of February 18th to 20th it was basically the rodeo queen capital of the world as 36 local, state, and national queens were in town for the Silver Spurs Rodeo! We spent “Queen Week” visiting elementary schools in St. Cloud and Kissimmee, and enjoying popular attractions like Gatorland, Wild Florida and Cocoa Beach!
In the past, Miss Rodeo Canada would take two trips to Florida during her year, but I will not be returning to the hospitality of the Kessler’s family home as the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo will be given a facelift in 2022. The inaugural NFR Open powered by RAM is where champions from all 13 circuits of the PRCA will gather and it will take place in July at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs. Kissimmee, FL will miss hosting the overall circuit championships in April, but it is exciting to see our sport evolving and new traditions being made! Canadian rodeo fans will need to make the trip to Colorado to watch our Maple Leaf Circuit representatives rope and ride amongst the best in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association.
For now, I will be staying close to home with local appearances occupying my time until the Canadian Professional Rodeo season kicks off! My first rodeo is in Dawson Creek April 21st to 24th! Remember to visit https://www.missrodeocanada.ca/book-mrc to request Miss Rodeo Canada at your event!
