July, 2010
July was so much fun! I began the month at the Ponoka Stampede for their final showdown carrying our beautiful flag during grand entry and chasing stock during the performance. My favourite part was awarding the event winners for the 2010 Stampede at the final showdown event! I was bestowed the privilege of giving the greats their beautiful Troy Fischer Buckles and leather Roper Ponoka Stampede embroidered Jackets. It was an incredible feeling shaking hands with Tuf Cooper, Curtis Cassidy, Issac Diaz, Lisa Lockhart, Luke Butterfield, Dusty La Valley, Ty Elliot, Levi Simpson and Klay White!!! Wow! I love my job!
Following the Ponoka Stampede, Dana and I set our sights on the Calgary Stampede where we attended BBQ’s and breakfasts held by the Friends of Heritage Park and went to the PBR hosted by Ranchman’s. I had a blast helping the staff of the PBR and Ranchman’s count bids during the live cowboy Calcutta and being introduced during the performance! During Calgary
Stampede week, we were generously hosted by the rodeo and escorted around Calgary for the day. Thank you to Cindy Sergerie for your hospitality and warm welcome. We had an amazing time square dancing in the park, attending the pancake breakfast and being introduced on the main stage! Thank you! Dana and I also appreciate our sponsor Jim Nevada from Roper apparel and footwear for giving us exclusive accreditation for behind the scenes. It was exciting to check out the barns for the chuck wagons, and attend the BBQ’s backstage! Following the Stampede. Dana and I moved our bedrooms into my truck and drove to Harmon Valley and Tee pee Creek for their annual Pro Rodeos. Thank you for the hospitality! We had a great time chasing stock, attending Breakfasts, BBQ’s and your Top notch rodeos! After the Harmon Valley Rodeo was complete, I drove up to Manning for their annual Wild Rose Rodeo. This was a special rodeo for me to attend because I was Miss Manning Rodeo in 2007 which was my first rodeo queen title prior to MRC and Miss Grande Prairie Stompede. Thank you to the Battle River Ag Society for making it so special. Thank you to Chris Vandemark, Jo and Brian Keleman, and Barb Reinders for their kindness and encouragement over the past few years!
Driving down from Manning after the performance on Sunday evening, I quickly unpacked and repacked to catch my plane Monday morning to Cheyenne Wyoming for the daddy of em all! It was an amazing feeling to be the only Canadian Royalty waving for my Country and for our Canadian Rodeo. Educating, and greeting people throughout my visit was the highlight, and not to mention waving at thousands of people in the stands on Canada’s behalf....whoa... it was truly incredible. My most memorable moment was at the pancake breakfast where they feed over 10, 000 people. There was this wagon with burners all down each side, and as the pancakes finish cooking, we took our flippers and tossed the pancakes out of the wagon where boy scouts would catch them on their cookie sheet pans. It was so much fun! The boy scouts even let me catch a few flying flapjacks. What a memorable trip!
Just as I jumped off the plane I met Dana down at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede for their evening performance, and then travelled up to Camrose to join CFCW at Big Valley Jamboree for the next morning! Bulls for Breakfast was my favourite, which was a bull riding event held each morning of BJV and Danny Hooper was announcing the event. Thanks to everyone at CFCW for their continual support, and warm welcome throughout our adventures at BVJ. After our day at BJV we travelled down to the Strathmore Rodeo where we were welcomed by the rain. It was a great way to spend the long weekend, and we had an amazing time with everyone that we encountered. Thanks again for the salutation. Up next on the agenda for August, Dana and I will be attending High Prairie Elks Pro Rodeo, North Peace Stampede in Grimshaw, Dawson Creek Pro Rodeo, Oklahoma (USA) PRCA Rodeo and Lethbridge Whoop Up Days.
If you are in the neighbourhood, please feel free to stop by and check out the rodeos and events. Until next time... take care of yourselves and loved ones... see you down the rodeo road!

June has been a very busy month and I have loved every minute of it! Life has been filled with surreal experiences, and life changing events and I am very grateful for the sponsors of MRC who make this life a reality. This month Dana and I have been driving up and down Highway 2 stopping in Stony Plain for the Top Notch Performance Horse sale, down to Brooks Professional Rodeo, over to the 50th Anniversary of the Innisfail Professional Rodeo and attended the Sundre Professional Rodeo. What a busy and wonderful life I live!
Our sponsors of the Miss Rodeo Canada pageant Top Notch Performance Horses invited us to their horse sale in the beginning of June. We had a great time leading the beautiful yearlings into the arena, and having the opportunity to mingle and visit with everyone in attendance at the sale. We had a great time! There was one little girl who fell in love with the yearling that I had the pleasure of showing in the arena. Her family purchased her first horse that day, and I’ve never seen a bigger smile on a young lady’s face. I wish you all the best with your new friend!
The Brooks rodeo committee welcomed Dana and I with open arms, and we are grateful to be a part of their amazing show! Congratulations to the Kinsman and Brooks Rodeo committee on a successful rodeo, and beautiful new rodeo grounds. While we were in Brooks, we were invited by Tony Stehr from LR Helicopters to take flight and have a tour of beautiful Brooks! Thank you for showing us a breath taking side of the area! We had a blast!
If you haven’t been to the Innisfail Professional rodeo... you have to put it in your schedule for next year! Wow... the Daines sure know how to put on a show! World champions were competing, premium stock was performing, and good times were had by all. It was the 50th anniversary of the rodeo, and every moment was action packed and electrifying. Niki Cammaert was performing throughout the week, and she is a dedicated and beautiful woman whom deserves to be recognized. She is a trick rider, entertainer, stunt woman and role model who's travelled all over North America entertaining rodeo fans around the world. For more information about Niki, check out her website www.cowgirlinup.com.
Keep an eye out for Dana and I at our upcoming events! We will be attending the Calgary Stampede, Tee Pee Creek Stampede, Harmon Valley Rodeo, Manning Rodeo and many more! I will also be packing my Wrangler Jeans and Stetson boots over to Cheyenne Wyoming for their frontier Days July 26-29th!
Until next time, take care of yourself and your loved ones! See you down the rodeo road!
